I met with my principal to discuss possible research topics for my internship.  I shared with her the topics that I had in mind.  My first choice was rigor in the classroom the campus level however; I realized that my original idea was too much for me to handle on my own.   I talked to my site supervisor again about how I should narrow my research.  I suggested that action research on the reading curriculum would benefit the campus.  She feels that at our campus staff development on rigorous instruction is a campus need.  Teachers are still unclear about what rigor actually means.  She wants me to research rigor in the classroom and offered to help me through my action research.  Therefore, I have narrowed my research to facilitating staff development to teachers at the 5th grade level.  The purpose of my research is to train teachers on how to develop rigorous lesson in the classroom in order to increase our scores in reading.  This past year our campus did not meet AYP in reading and I think that the teachers need to teach lessons at the same rigor as the STAAR test.

  1. i very interested in your findings of your research. I am conducting research on rigor m math lessons. I decided I needed a concrete template( checklist) to help me gauge the level of rigor in the lessons I observe. I felt this would give a more objective perspective. Just a thought....
